I dont know exactly what happened, but I know that the option was running out. Some of the scenes were shot on the real crime locations depicted. Craig: We went into a bit of a quandary about the ending. I was fine with that. This shooting game is the newest brilliant sneaking FPS game. And that looks like a detail youd come up with writing a script. When fans of The Town think of Charlestown, they think of banks and bars and punchlines. The imitators that his opus spawned, however, couldnt recreate what he managed to. And I still am. It all felt sort of very impossible and glamorous. For example, with my brother [Casey] in Gone Baby Gone, I thought it really benefited from the fact that he wasnt so well-known. David Crockett (producer): They read, and not saying who she was or what she was in, she did the [Boston] accent. The FBI says the vestibule was actually a "man-trap," designed to capture people like Hamilton. In Black Mass, Johnny Depp plays South Boston mobster James Whitey Bulger, an Irish gangster who informed on the Italian mob to the FBI. He has a certain thing in that town. Ill do that., My place in Connecticut is only three hours from Boston, so I just, on a whim, jumped in the car, drove up to Boston, went to the production office and walked in, and David Crockett, one of the producers, and Chay were like, Hey, what are you doing? And I said to Chay, Oh, Im Detective such and such. And she was like, You fucker. I said, Is he here? And she said, Yeah, hes down doing auditions downstairs., I kind of slipped in and waited in line and then said to the production assistant, Dont say my name. And a lot of older actors, [when theyre] told, Go here, do this, a lot of these guys are like, Fuck off. But it isnt. Its like 50 percent of why people buy tickets. In one of his final roles, Academy Awardnominated English actor Pete Postlethwaite plays Fergus Fergie Colm, a menacing mob boss/florist who gives Doug orders while chomping gum and stripping roses. Its this movie and its already got a script. We all want to drive a f----n caaar like Gloansy. The top of his head was really messed up. Im like, You know what, if its terrible, Ill get a great story out of it. I sit down and I watch it, and it was really bewildering. Jem is furious when he finds Doug cozying up to Claire, the bank manager who could finger them to the Feds. Its something Ive seen other directors do. Its a fun heist movie. Chuck Hogan (author, Prince of Thieves): When the book came out, I was scheduled to do a reading at the Charlestown Public Library. 10 Patty Hearst The bank robbers, who were very much an element of life in the neighborhood for decades, have been gone for 15 years, replaced by a new Charlestown where gentrification has taken hold and the more accurate stereotype of the moment is: Oh, you must be a yuppie. Welliver: When we were doing The Town is when he was up for the role of Hawkeye. Theyre locked, loaded, and trained in automatic weapons, and launder their take immediately. Burch: When theyre down in Gate D, where the shoot-out scene was before they exited the ballpark, that was probably the most challenging part of it. Hamm: I had also seen Dahmer. And they told us all these stories, and all these fascinating things, and built up what this mythology was. If the Herald said that, I mightve taken it more personally. And so yes, they rob Fenway, but its not like hes running across the outfield getting tackled by Tom Brunansky with a bag of money in hand. It is also quirkily structured, vaguely biographical and personal. Its a hard movie to watch. MacRay is pulled between the devil and angel who sit on his shoulders: Jem, who spent nine years in prison for killing someone who was supposedly planning to kill Doug; and Claire, the bank manager Doug falls for after a job. Every large theft needs an inside man, but Inside Man (2006), directed by Spike Lee, had Clive Owen as a bona fide genius. Forget it. It was concealing a character-based drama centered around themes that I was interested in, particularly the theme of children paying for the sins of their parents, Affleck says. And I said, Adrian, this is gonna be a three-and-a-half-hour movie. Hes like, Well, if Scorsese can make a three-and-a-half-hour movie, I want to.. His father, Stephen MacRay (Chris Cooper) was a thief, just like his father, and all of Dougs friends were thick with thievery. Claire represents the real problem at the center of the proceedings. Eventually, homogenization came for those tales, too. Hes been forever. I knew that many of these bank robbers had gone to Catholic schools as children and been taught by nuns. Afflecks big killing in The Town is Fenway Park, and over 60 years later, the take is the same. We all want to chortle,like Jem,there goes college soccaaar, while shooting a guy we dont like in the knee. WebThe Town. Ben wasnt in Boston. That was sort of the trick. In adapting the script, itself adapted from Chuck Hogans novel Prince of Thieves, Affleck and Aaron Stockard (with whomhe also worked on Good Will Hunting and Gone Baby Gone) changed the cinema setting of the second heist to an armoured-car robbery and car chase based on a real incident that took place in Harvard Square. [Through a representative, Renner declined to be interviewed for this article.]. When Doug wakes Jem up in the middle of the night to do some damage and ask no questions, the only thing his friend wants to know is which car they should take. So I was thrilled. Affleck: Blake Lively took the train from New York. It included a mastermind, a distraction, a partner, a coordinator, a backer, hacker, con man, and gadget guy. Thats the one moment that gives you a glimpse into how damaged and how profoundly broken Jem is.
